DERMAPLANE

WHAT IS DERMAPLANING?

Dermaplaning is a simple treatment that involves the use of a scalpel, a handheld instrument that lightly removes facial hair and dead skin from the outermost layer of the face. The dermatome's treatment can improve your skin tone, complexion, and overall appearance. Dermaplaning is great as a standalone treatment or can perfectly paired to any facial.

WHAT CONDITIONS DOES DERMAPLANING TREAT?

Dermaplaning treats many visible facial imperfections, including small hairs and peach fuzz, hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and dead skin on your face. By shaving off this uppermost layer of skin, dermaplaning encourages the skin on your face to remain as fresh and new as possible, reducing the appearance of fine lines, scarring, and texture.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR DERMAPLANING?

Ideal candidates for dermaplaning are those who have aging, dry, or rough skin, uneven skin tone, peach fuzz, or shallow acne scarring. Candidates who want to eliminate these facial imperfections will benefit from dermaplaning, but it’s important to remain realistic about results. Dermaplaning is a great treatment option for pregnant patients and those with sensitive skin who may not be able to undergo laser skin treatment or chemical peels. If you have active or cystic acne, psoriasis, or eczema on the face, dermaplaning will not be recommended for you.

HOW LONG DO RESULTS FROM DERMAPLANING LAST?

Results from dermaplaning are temporary, but they can last for up to four weeks. By the end of four weeks, your skin will have completed a rejuvenation cycle, signaling the need to shed new dead skin cells on the face.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE A DERMAPLANING TREATMENT?

Most patients schedule dermaplaning every four to six weeks to maintain a smooth, radiant complexion, but this can vary based on individual skin needs.

WILL MY HAIR GROW BACK THICKER?

Dermaplaning does not cause hair to grow back thicker or darker. The fine, vellus hair (often called peach fuzz) that dermaplaning removes will grow back at the same rate and texture as before. This misconception comes from the natural regrowth process, but dermaplaning does not alter hair thickness or color.
